HHMMM, who would be a makeup artist in this weather???
Monday morning saw me off to a very early start.. I was shooting a little drama, set in a school, on location at the Lambeth Academy in Clapham.. Sounds easy enough, except that not only was there the threat of snow to disrupt the travelling, there was also a full tube strike.. Still the show must go on and theres no way you can arrive late on set.. Not only is that very unprofessional, but until the actors are ready, nobody can start filming.. Theres no way you can hold up the crew, so the answer is simply to leave earlier, whatever that takes..Alarm goes off at 5am to check snow condition...not too bad...Luckily for me there is a direct train from berkhamsted to Clapham and at 06.15 im on it with a large suitcase and backpack. It was possibly the most crowed train i've been on in the UK and all the commuters were squashed and grumpy.. from Clapham Jct, with the huge case and backpack one of the lovely production ladies from PUKKA FILMS met me and we managed to jump on a bus to get to the location... Phew, exhausting journey, but as soon as i arrive, theres a a quick coffee and straight down to work.. Today the lovely actress who is 23, needs to look like a school girl of 17..Minimal makeup then, striking the balance between how the director wants her to look and how the actress wants to look.. Very tricky so its just a very light base to even out the skin tone, a little cream blush to contour and add a little colour to winter skin and some mascara...Next move onto all the kids playing background artists, just check them over and put some Face to Face gel that instantly makes the skin matt...A great product for the kit, that comes in 3 shades...
Ok, now all the artists are ready and we start filming...outside...it must be -1 degrees.. Here is where your thermal underwear, cosy socks hats etc are very important.. standing outside, doing take after take the cold seeps right into your bones..Its FREEZING...But at least we've only got a couple of shots to do and in 2 hours we are done with the outside and back in the warm..All in all its a great day.. I love working with young people who are at the beginning of their career.....And bonus is an early finish, just got to struggle home with the kit...
